ABOUT SITTIPHON LOCHAISONG, AKA BOMB

Exploding-fixed ('explicate-fixe'), such is the beauty that the future holds, according to André Breton. Sittiphon Lochaisong, aka Bomb, did not knowingly choose his artistic name in reference to the quotation by the father of Surrealism but it is as if one, from Paris in 1937, and the other from a small provincial town in Thailand in 2017 exchanged their views on the topic of a potential definition of beauty and the role of the artist. It is at the Mudima Foundation that the work of this young artist is to be exhibited in Europe for the very first time, at a location where the notions of 'hasard objectif' or synchronicity which ruled the spirit of Fluxus just like that of Surrealism (without mentioning that of Arte Povera or Gutai). Because here we are dealing with the question of flux, vortices, and cosmic expansion, just like on the canvases of Bomb. Nebula, clusters of stars, spiral or elliptic galaxies: the Hubble telescope has brought us back images inconspicuous from our observable universe until now. And these have certainly had an impact on the manner

in which Sittiphon conceives and creates his works. The values of grey, pure black and white allow him to grasp this phenomenon of light and shade, which he renders through his panoramic and immersive visions. On his canvases, a sprinkling of tiny particles is scattered by wind or flows of stellar energy. A spectacle which in essence is universal... And herein lies another element to Bomb's work; it is deeply rooted in Thai culture (the artist followed classes at the Fine Arts school of Silpakorn Bangkok and learned his trade in the temples) and transcends specific cultural codes and representations. To paint the universe using particles of light, stripping our ego by placing us before the abysmal vastness from which we all originate, 'to fix' or record the essential deflagration to remind ourselves that we are all the product of stardust and vibrating particles: therein lies the art of Sittiphon Lochaisong, aka Bomb.
